David North has played a leading role in the international socialist movement for forty-five years, and is presently the chairperson of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site and the Socialist Equality Party.

Vadim Z. Rogovin (1937-1998) was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and researched social inequality in the USSR. In the 1990s, he wrote a seven-volume series on the rise of Stalinism and the history of the socialist-based opposition to Stalin's rule.

David Walsh is from New York City and has been arts editor of the World Socialist Web Site since its launch in January 1998. He has been a full-time socialist journalist since 1991, writing extensively about films and filmmakers.

Leon Trotsky (1879-1940) was, alongside Vladimir Lenin, the greatest revolutionary leader of the 20th century. In 1923, Trotsky founded the Left Opposition to fight against the Stalinist degeneration of the Soviet Union and  founded the Fourth International in 1938.

Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924) was the founder of the Bolshevik Party in Russia, leader of the 1917 Russian Revolution and a towering political and intellectual figure in the 20th century.

Karl Marx is the originator of the materialist conception of history, the author of Das Kapital and, with Friedrich Engels, the founder of the modern revolutionary socialist movement.

Friedrich Engels was the lifelong collaborator of Karl Marx, and played, after Marx himself, the leading role in the development of Marxism as a science and a revolutionary program for the working class in the 19th century.
