The Global Pandemic, the Class Struggle and the Tasks of the Socialist Equality Party

The Socialist Equality Party (US) adopted this resolution unanimously at its sixth national congress, which took place between July 19 and 24, 2020. The congress recognized that the coronavirus pandemic will go down in history as a “trigger event,” not unlike the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in 1914, which sparked World War I. The assassination accelerated inflammable historical processes that had been building up over a protracted period. Today, the COVID-19 pandemic is creating conditions for an immense intensification of the class struggle on a world scale. As the resolution states: “The working class is confronted with a crisis for which there is no progressive solution, apart from a revolutionary struggle against capitalism.”
