  1. Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement

Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement

Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement uses archival evidence to shed new light on how the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union spied on and infiltrated the world Trotskyist movement from the 1930s through the 1980s.

Beginning in the 1930s, both governments succeeded in placing high-level agents within the American Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party (SWP). Through their network of spies, the Stalinist secret police—the GPU—were able to orchestrate the assassination of Leon Trotsky, co-leader of the Russian Revolution, in Mexico City in August 1940. The FBI used their network of undercover agents to prepare the conviction of 18 members of the SWP in 1941 for on charges of sedition, under the recently passed Smith Act. In both cases, the infiltration continued well past the early 1940s.

  2. The Crisis of American Democracy

    The Crisis of American Democracy

This volume of lectures is remarkably prescient and historically relevant in light of the recent revelations of NSA spying, drone assassinations and the suppression of Constitutionally protected rights by the Democratic administration of Barack Obama. David North establishes in a detailed analysis of the 2000 and 2004 US presidential elections that behind the breakdown of democracy in the United States lies the deterioration of its global economic position and the unprecedented growth of social inequality—already apparent at that time. 3. A Quarter Century of War: The US Drive for Global Hegemony 1990 - 2016 (.mobi)

A Quarter Century of War: The US Drive for Global Hegemony 1990 - 2016 (.mobi)

Beginning with the first Persian Gulf conflict of 1990–91, the United States has been at war continuously for a quarter century. While using propaganda catchphrases, such as “defense of human rights” and “War on Terror,” to conceal the real aims of its interventions in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, as well as its confrontation with Russia and China, the United States has been engaged in a struggle for global hegemony. The essays and lectures in this volume, informed by a Marxist understanding of the contradictions of American and world imperialism, analyze the progression of military interventions and geopolitical crises as they have developed over the past quarter century, not as a sequence of isolated episodes, but as moments in the unfolding of an interconnected historical process. 7. The Historical & International Foundations of the SEP, Sri Lanka

The Historical & International Foundations of the SEP, Sri Lanka

Adopted by the Socialist Equality Party (Sri Lanka) at its 2011 founding congress in Colombo, this document depicts the 75-year struggle of the Fourth International in South Asia for Trotsky’s theory of Permanent Revolution. The founding in 1942 of the Bolshevik Leninist Party of India (BLPI), by leaders of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) who had escaped British jails in Ceylon, marked a decisive advance for the Fourth International in Asia. The document traces the rise, decline and ultimate betrayal of the LSSP, which joined the 1964 coalition government of Madame Sirima Bandaranaike, abandoning the struggle to unify the Tamil and Sinhalese working class, and opening the road to the bloody 25-year civil war from 1983 to 2009.
