Hollywood Honors Elia Kazan: Filmmaker and Informer
Elia Kazan, director of 19 feature films between 1945 and 1976, was one of the most prominent figures to turn informer during the anti-communist witchhunts of the early 1950s. In this eassy David Walsh, arts editor of the World Socialist Web Site, looks at the decision by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to grant Kazan an honorary award in 1999.
